For Lovers and Loners!
Luke Pickett's live Valentine gig at the 12 Bar...
Valentines Day can be dealt with in a variety of ways, for example taking that special someone to the cinema, taking them out for a romantic dinner, or simply a gentle stroll through the park.
For the unfortunate among us, it could be easily spent sat in front of a television screen working your way through a jumbo size tub of Ben and Jerry’s finest cookie dough ice-cream.
Luckily, Luke Pickett offered a solution for both parties with his selection of carefully structured, well balanced acoustic pop.
The evenings opening act, Charlie Bath, juggled her set between acoustic guitar are piano and gave the room a real treat with a wonderful batch of intriguing and enjoyable songs that managed to fit in perfectly with her seductive and quite amazing voice.
She was quickly followed by Comic Boy, a defiantly original two piece that has begun to find its feet in the music business after a succession of tours supporting Frank Turner.
Their light-hearted character lifted the crowd up a notch, giving them slices of melodramatic pop that added an extra dimension to the evening’s proceedings.
Definitely worth a second listen.
The evening’s headliner Luke Pickett, is the definition of “Fit”.
It didn’t take long to register with me that it may have been more a female’s idea to attend the gig, or just a very naive set of boyfriends.
Either way, Luke does not disappoint the packed out 12 Bar crowd. His songs are fantastically well written, and tug on the heartstrings of all the lovers and loners of the night (if you haven’t guessed, I am one of those loners).
His voice is what makes the music what it is. With songs like “Empty Corridors” and “Blood Money” he exercises his vocal qualities to the maximum, hitting notes higher than the David Murray John Tower.
This myspace phenomenon justifies all the hype surrounding him. The faster he escapes the underground to the mainstream the better as his music demands recognition.
Its an absolutely storming evening that satisfies all who attended.
Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, We all love Luke Pickett, He loves us all too.
